Our Approach

Import cover is the cargo policy; the documentation is the claim.

On an import shipment, the policy wording matters less than the documentation. Survey at port of arrival, bill of lading endorsement, banker's verification on LC-backed shipments, the recurring reason for import-claim disputes is a documentation gap, not a wording gap. We administer the documentation alongside the placement.

Key Benefits

What you get when we place this cover

ICC clause selection matched to cargo
ICC-A for high-value or fragile goods, ICC-B for standard manufactures, ICC-C for bulk commodities, chosen against your specific consignment type, not defaulted to the broadest.
LC-compliant policy issuance
For LC-backed imports, the policy schedule, insured names, voyage details and clauses are all issued in the format your banker requires.
Port survey co-ordination
On a damaged-on-arrival consignment, we co-ordinate the port survey, BL endorsement and insurer notification within the window required by the policy.
Through-transit cover to warehouse
Single policy covers ocean and inland legs, removing the gap that often exists between a port-of-arrival policy and an inland transit policy.
FAQ

Common Questions

CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) applies to sea transport and is the most common Incoterm for ocean imports into India. CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid To) applies to any mode (sea, air, road, rail) and is increasingly used for multi-modal consignments. The cover structure is similar; the responsibility for arranging insurance shifts to the seller under both.
No. War, strikes, riot and civil commotion are typically excluded from standard marine policies. They are available as paid extensions, and for politically sensitive routes (e.g. through the Red Sea, certain African ports) we recommend including them.
No. The policy attaches at the point of dispatch from the supplier's premises. Damage occurring before dispatch is the supplier's commercial liability, not a marine insurance event.
Claim value follows the insured value in the LC documentation, which is typically CIF value plus a margin (commonly 10%) to cover incidental costs and a profit allowance. The specific calculation is recorded in the policy schedule at issuance.
