Schools, Colleges & Universities

Insurance for K-12 schools, colleges, universities, coaching institutes and EdTech operators, premises, student safety and faculty.

The sector

Children in the operator's care need different cover than adults on the same premises.

Educational institutions face premises liability for student safety, faculty employee compensation, building property risk often spanning multiple campuses, and increasingly cyber exposure where online classes, student records and payment systems are concerned. Personal accident cover for students is often a parent-mandated or board-mandated benefit.

Risk profile

Where the exposure lives.

A campus exposes its buildings, public liability, and a duty of care to students and staff. We underwrite these four first.

01
Student injury & liability
Playground accidents, transport incidents and on-campus injuries, claims often emotionally weighted as well as legally.
02
Faculty employee compensation
EC Act exposure for teaching, administrative and support staff.
03
Building fire & property
Campus buildings, labs, libraries and dormitories, fire and natural-peril exposure.
04
Cyber & student data
DPDPA implications for student records, payment data and online classroom platforms.
Claim reality

What a claim tends to look like here.

A representative claim is fire or storm damage to buildings and contents, or a public-liability claim following injury to a student or visitor on the premises. Cover for the workforce and, for boarding, for students adds further layers.

Questions

Questions we get in this sector.

Public liability responds to third-party injury claims on the premises, including visitors; cover for enrolled students may need specific extension depending on activities. We confirm the scope for sports, labs and field trips.
Specialised lab and IT equipment is best covered on an all-risk or breakdown basis given repair costs, alongside the fire policy on buildings and contents. We structure both.
Only if a student personal accident or group cover is arranged. Public liability responds where the institution is at fault; a no-fault benefit to a student's family requires its own cover and is what parents actually expect.
Considerably. Laboratories, sports facilities and school transport are where serious injuries occur, and school buses carry both motor and occupant exposure. Each should be declared rather than assumed to sit inside a general policy.
Increasingly, in the form of allegations about duty of care, supervision and employment practice. These attach to the institution and to individuals, and they are defended at the institution's cost whatever the outcome.
