Insurance Data for Journalists
We publish IRDAI's insurer tables in full, with the arithmetic shown and the rows downloadable, and an IRDAI-registered advisor will explain any figure the same day.
If you are writing about Indian insurers, claims, or what the regulator's figures mean for policyholders, this is everything we hold and how to reach us.
The story in the figures now
Public insurers paid out more in health claims than they earned
In FY2024-25 the four public sector insurers paid ₹100.6 in net health claims for every ₹100 of net health premium earned; standalone health insurers paid ₹68.7. Every insurer.
Fire insurance premium fell for the first time in a decade
Gross direct fire premium fell 5.5% in FY2024-25 to ₹24,242 crore, the first fall in the ten years IRDAI prints. Every insurer's fire business.
The most complained-about insurer is not the one with the worst rate
Star Health & Allied Insurance Co. Ltd drew the most complaints in FY2024-25, 20,527, but per 10,000 claims paid the ranking changes. Complaints, adjusted for size.
What we publish
Every table is computed from IRDAI's own Handbook on Indian Insurance Statistics 2024-25, with the arithmetic shown on the page and the rows downloadable as CSV.

How to credit the figures
“Rakshit Financial Services analysis of IRDAI data”, with a link to the page the figure came from. Where a figure is IRDAI's own, unaltered, it is fine to credit IRDAI directly; the page names the table and edition every time. How we source and check figures: editorial standards.
When the figures change
IRDAI publishes the Handbook once a year, usually in February; the current edition was published on 3 February 2026. We refresh every table within days of a new edition, and the date on each page changes only when its figures do.
