  • Rule 1: leave it where it lies, if it is safe. A block moved before the survey is hard to claim.
  • Rule 2: get the damage written on the delivery challan, signed by the driver, before the block is offloaded.
  • Rule 3: give the transporter written notice within 180 days of booking (Section 16, Carriage by Road Act, 2007). The time runs from the booking date, not the day you saw the damage, and a claim bill is not a notice.
