Professional Indemnity Insurance Quote
Professional indemnity responds when a client alleges your advice or work caused them loss. Getting a quote takes one conversation, and the number that matters most is not the premium.
Or request a callback. Free, no obligation, and we are reachable 24/7. Most quotes come back the same working day.
Before you ask
- Professional indemnity is written on a claims-made basis, so the policy that responds is the one in force when the claim is made, not when the work was done.
- The retroactive date decides how much of your past work is covered. Losing it when you switch insurer is the most expensive mistake in this class.
- Limit of indemnity is usually driven by your client contracts, which increasingly specify a figure by name.
- Defence costs are frequently the larger part of a claim, so check whether they sit inside or outside the limit.
What drives the premium
- Your profession and the specific services you perform, since a structural engineer and a management consultant carry very different exposures
- Annual fee income, which is the usual rating base
- The limit of indemnity and whether defence costs are inside or outside it
- Your claims and circumstances history, including matters notified but not yet claims
- Contractual jurisdiction, because work for overseas clients under their courts costs materially more
- The retroactive date you need, which is the whole of your past exposure
Indian general insurance was de-tariffed in 2007, so there is no tariff to quote from and any site publishing a rate is guessing. What we can do is read your risk against the market and come back with real terms.
What we need from you
- What you do, in one line, and the services you want covered
- Annual fee income, current year and next
- Any limit named in your client contracts or empanelment terms
- Your existing policy schedule if you hold one, so the retroactive date carries across
- Any claim or complaint in the last five years, including ones that went nowhere
Send whatever you have on WhatsApp, even a photograph of the existing policy schedule. We will tell you what is missing rather than send you a form.
Frequently asked questions
How much professional indemnity cover do I need?
Usually whatever your client contracts specify, because that is the figure you have already promised. Where nothing is specified, size it against the largest single engagement you could be sued over rather than against fee income, since one project can generate a claim far larger than the fee it earned.
What is a retroactive date and why does it matter?
It is the date from which past work is covered. A policy with a retroactive date of today covers nothing you have already done. When you switch insurer, the new policy must carry the original retroactive date forward or years of past work become uninsured overnight.
Is professional indemnity mandatory in India?
Not by general law, but it is required for several regulated activities and is increasingly written into client contracts, tenders and empanelment terms. Many professionals discover the requirement when a contract is already signed.
Does it cover deliberate wrongdoing?
No. Professional indemnity answers negligence, error and omission. Dishonesty and deliberate acts are excluded, though the policy will normally still fund your defence until such an allegation is actually proven.
