Fire and Burglary Insurance Quote
The rate is the part buyers negotiate and the sum insured is the part that decides what a claim pays. Getting the second right is worth far more than shaving the first.

Before you ask
- Fire policies settle on reinstatement value: what it costs to rebuild or replace today, not the depreciated figure in your accounts.
- If the sum insured is short, the average clause reduces every claim in the same proportion, including partial ones, which is what most fires actually are.
- Burglary is a separate section with its own sum insured, and theft following forcible entry is defined narrowly. Read that definition before you need it.
- Business interruption is a different policy again. Fire rebuilds the shed; it pays nothing for the months you are not producing.
Work out the sum insured first → Free, nothing stored, and it makes the conversation shorter.
What drives the premium
- Occupancy and process, which is the largest single factor: a textile mill and a warehouse of inert goods are not comparable
- Construction of the building and the fire separation between blocks
- Fire protection in place: hydrants, sprinklers, alarms, and the distance to a fire station
- Sum insured across building, plant and stock
- Housekeeping and storage practice, which a risk inspection will assess
- Your claims history
Indian general insurance was de-tariffed in 2007, so there is no tariff to quote from and any site publishing a rate is guessing. What we can do is read your risk against the market and come back with real terms.
What we need from you
- Your trade and the process carried on at the premises
- Reinstatement cost of the building and replacement cost of plant
- Average stock holding, and the peak
- Fire protection installed
- Any claim in the last five years

Frequently asked questions
What determines a fire insurance premium in India?
Occupancy and process above everything, then construction, fire protection, housekeeping and claims history, applied to the sum insured you declare. Indian general insurance was de-tariffed in 2007, so rates are underwritten rather than tabulated, and no published figure would be reliable.
Should the sum insured be book value or market value?
Neither. Fire policies are written on reinstatement value, the cost of rebuilding or replacing today with new property of the same kind. Book value is depreciated and almost always too low; market value includes land, which a fire policy does not cover.
Does a fire policy cover burglary?
Not by itself. Burglary is a separate section with its own sum insured and its own definition, usually requiring forcible and violent entry. Theft without those elements may fall outside it, which is worth checking against how your premises are actually secured.
What is the average clause?
If the sum insured is less than the value at risk, you are treated as your own insurer for the difference and every claim is reduced in the same proportion. Insure a plant worth ten crore for six and a one crore loss pays sixty lakh.
